An antique McKenney & Hall lithograph, hand tinted at a later date, titled A-Na-Cam-E-Gish-Ca, A Chippeway Chief, published by F.W. Greenough, entered according to act of Congress in the year 1838. This is a page from the book History of the Indian tribes of North America, a collection of 125 images of lithographic plates. Thomas Loraine McKenney (1785 – 1859) served as Commissioner of Indian Affairs from 1824 to 1830, and had portraits of Native American chiefs commissioned for his gallery in the War Department. James Hall (1793 – 1868) provided text for this book, which was published in three volumes between 1838 and 1844.
