Hand-Knotted Heriz Wool Room Sized Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Heriz wool accent rug. This Iranian-made rug is designed with a diamond-shaped center field in deep red, with a cruciform-shaped center medallion in shades of cobalt blue, coral, charcoal gray and off white with foliate designs to each of the arms. The remaining field contains large geometric pendants including flowers, leaves and vines symmetrically placed with off white corner spandrels embellished with geometric floral motifs. The rug is worked in a palette of deep red, olive green, off white, coral, taupe and cobalt blue. Framing the field is a main border grounded in black with a geometric pattern, flanked by running water guards grounded in olive green. It has securing stitching at the warp ends to prevent fraying, likely as a result of a prior restoration. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing with an ivory warp fringe at each end. The rug is marked with a label to the verso.
