Hand-Knotted Hamadan Wool Accent Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Hamadan wool accent rug. This Iranian-made rug is designed with a center field in red, with a four-lobed floral medallion to the center. The remaining field contains large geometric pendants including flowers, leaves and vines symmetrically placed with off white corner spandrels embellished with floral motifs. The rug is worked in a palette of pale gold, medium gray, off white, burnt umber, celadon green and amethyst. Framing the filed is a main border grounded in black with more palmette pendants flanked by running water guards. It has securing stitching at the warp ends to prevent fraying, likely as a result of a prior restoration. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing with a kilim skirt and redone ivory warp fringe at each end. The rug is marked with a label to the verso.
