19th Century Crayon Portrait of Ona Hulls
Item Details
Wooden Frame
A 19th century antique crayon portrait. Crayon portraits were created by adding accents by hand, usually using pastels, watercolors, or charcoal, to accent and bring life to an antique black and white portrait photograph. This piece uses pastel and watercolor to accent a portrait of the bust of a young woman wearing a high-collared blue and white gown. The piece is unsigned. It is presented in a wooden frame with ornate cast surface embellishments and white and gold tone painted finishes. A hanging wire is attached to its verso. A note to the verso identifies the model as Ona Hulls, daughter of Willlard Hulls who is the first cousin of Frank S. Hedges and father of Fannie C. Hedges.
