A hand-knotted Persian Qashqai wool area rug. This rug is rendered in an abrash palette of scarlet, blue-violet, clementine, ivory, wine, slate, and indigo. The lozenged scarlet hued field has sawtooth edges, and begins with a central hexagonal form infilled with a medallion, branched elements, and an array of floral and foliate motifs. The lozenge also features tree of life motifs, animals, flowers, leaves, and other geometrically shaped symbols throughout. Enclosing the field is a blue-violet colored ground that has coordinating animal head medallions, as well as coordinating designs found in the lozenge. Framing the field is a main ivory grounded tree of life border, as well as thin meandering minor borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a wool warp fringe to the ends. This rug is unlabeled.
