An artist’s proof embellished serigraph and offset lithograph on cotton rag paper by listed artist Swoon (American, b. 1977), titled Edline, dated 2017. The work depicts a young Haitian girl holding a puppet figure of the sun. The composition is surrounded by a hand-painted red and pink gouache circumference. The image has been used in numerous variant prints and murals by the artist. The piece is signed and marked ‘AP’ to the lower margin. The work is presented as a loose print.
Swoon (Caledonia Curry) is a street artist known for her site-specific installations, life-size prints, and paper cutouts. Her influences range from Käthe Kollwitz (German, 1867 – 1945) to Indonesian shadow puppets. The artist’s work concentrates on portraits. Swoon’s portraits seek to capture the stored experiences of the sitter in order to build connections with viewers. The artist received her formal art education from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn (BFA). Her major solo exhibitions include the Brooklyn Museum, MoMA, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati; and more.
