An oil painting on canvas by listed New England artist Wesley Elbridge Webber (1841 – 1914). The pastoral landscape depicts a shepherd herding a flock of sheep in an idyllic landscape at sunset. The work is hand signed to the lower right. It is presented in a gilt wood and gesso frame.
Webber was a self-taught New England artist, recognized for both his East Coast landscape paintings and illustrations of the Civil War, in which he served. In his lifetime, he was a member of the Boston Art Club. His work can be found in collections including the Brooklyn Museum and the Portland Museum of Art.
