Antique Keuffel & Esser "Model 4012" Thacher's Cylindrical Slide Rule with Case
Item Details
An antique Keuffel & Esser Model 4012 Thacher’s cylindrical slide rule with case, early 20th century. The slide rule is composed of an outer, envelope with twenty bars or slats surrounding an inner, removable cylinder, both of which are printed with decimal scales used in multiplication, division, proportion, and powers. The outer envelope and inner cylinder can be rotated by means of lateral, mahogany handles and the instrument is supported by a brass frame affixed to a rectangular base. The front of the base retains the original paper label titled ’Thacher’s / Calculating Instrument. / Directions And Rules For / Operating.’ while the back edge is incised ‘Keuffel & Esser Co. N.Y. / 4012 / 6140’ with a figural trademark. Also included is the original mahogany storage case with a hinged lid secured by hook-and-eye latches. The front panel retains a brass plaque reading ‘Keuffel & Esser Co. / New York, / Hoboken, N.J. / Chicago, / San Francisco, / St. Louis, / Montreal.’
