A set of watercolor paintings on paper both titled As I Saw Me and painted in 1940 and 1950 by American artist Carolyn Zimmerman (born 1903). These pieces depict self-portraits of the artist painted ten years apart from one another, one in a cool blue palette with the artist facing the viewer head-on, and the second showing an older woman in a palette of pink and purples at a three-quarters view. Both are signed to the lower right and have affixed labels with the title and dates in the upper left, with the older piece additionally labeled, ‘self-portraot’ with the date to the lower right. Both are presented unframed with a protective acetate sleeve.

Carolyn Zimmerman was born in Walton, Indiana and became the wife of prominent Cincinnati artist Carl Zimmerman. She started her formal artistic training at the Cincinnati Art Academy and studied with French sculptor and painter Antoine Bourdelle as well as Madame Levy-Ginsborg in Paris. Zimmerman body of work primarily focuses on forested landscapes. Carolyn, along with her husband Carl Zimmerman, was a member of the Cincinnati School of Painters.
