Hand-Knotted Persian "Garaja" Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Garaja carpet runner. This wool pile rug is worked in a palette of madder red, indigo, emerald, gold, blush, tangerine, sky blue, and ivory and begins with alternating cruciform and hooked hexagonal shaped medallions. The field is densely populated with sprays of geometric lancet leaves and rosettes and framed with floral meander guard borders, while the primary border displays a rectilinear herati motif over indigo. Finishing the piece are overcast selvedges and cotton warp fringe. A label to the reverse reads ‘Ghandi, Made in Iran’. Please see companion rug in 18WDC112-104.
