A European oil painting on canvas attributed to George Cattermole (1800 – 1868) dated 1850. The work depicts an interior scene with a man in half armor, helmet, and sword holding a small sack to the left of a man in monk’s robes holding a book and cross. The piece is monogrammed to the lower left and appears to read ‘GC’. It is presented in a gold tone gesso and wood frame.
Condition
- craquelure throughout; some inpainting to monk’s robe at center; inpainting throughout background particularly to archway to upper center and to window at right; wax and relining to canvas to verso; marks and discoloration throughout finish of frame; cracks to frame at corners; chipping throughout frame particularly to corners; abrasions throughout frame; item black light tested.
