Item Details
A vintage hand-knotted Persian Malayer wool area rug. This rug is rendered in an abrash and variegated palette of crimson-mauve, ivory, walnut, charcoal, carnation, umber, and tangerine. The crimson to mauve hued field begins with a hexagonal medallion infilled with guls, palmettes, and a central design of poles with stepped diamonds. The field also features an array of memling guls, tree of life motifs, and other symbolic motifs, while enclosed with lappets to the ends infilled hooked and serrated patterns. Framing the field is a charcoal grounded main bracket and eight pointed star border, as well as a Hamadan guard border, and an S designed guard border. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a wool warp fringe to the ends. It is labeled ‘Persian Malayer’, ‘Design Sarabend’.
