Born on the Yugoslavia-Hungary border, Tarkay’s family was forced into Mauthausen Concentration Camp in 1944 and freed a year later by the Allied forces. Hi family emigrated to Israel in 1949. Tarkay went on to travel the world, creating a following for his distinct style. He says that he paints by instinct, and can no further explain his use of color as he can his own handwriting.
