Antique Louis XVI Style Carved Walnut Buffet á Deux Corps
Item Details
An antique Louis XVI style carved walnut buffet á deux corps, late 19th to early 20th century. The upper section features a ribbon- and foliate-carved crest above an arched and molded cornice over a central, glazed door with nine, beveled-glass panels. The door opens to a mirrored interior with two removable, glass shelves and the cabinet is flanked on both sides by a pair of paneled doors over a stack of three dovetailed, short drawers. The outer, blind cabinets open to two adjustable shelves while the stiles are carved with scrolled upper, terminals continuing to floral pendants. The lower section has a rectangular, molded top above two aligned, frieze drawers over a pair of paneled doors concealing one long shelf. The oak-lined and dovetailed drawers are fitted with brass handles while the doors have cast-brass escutcheon plates. There is additional carving to the stiles as well as to the center, in the form of flowers, drapery, and ribbons. The whole piece rises on a molded base ending in turned, front feet.
