Antique George I Walnut and String-Inlaid Lowboy
Item Details
An antique George I walnut and string-inlaid lowboy, early 18th century. The case features a rectangular, molded top with a block-veneered center surrounded by string-inlaid and crossbanded edges behind notched, front corners. Directly below are two aligned over one dovetailed, long drawer with cockbeaded, case surrounds. The string-inlaid and crossbanded drawer fronts are fitted with brass, bail handles before oak linings and the lowboy has a scrolled apron. It rises on cabriole legs ending in pad-on-disc feet.

Condition
- case with scattered veneer cracks, repairs, and small losses; top with some small stains; secondaries with some former pest damage (worming); repaired split to backboard just above rear, right leg which has been re-pegged, thus leg is slightly looser than others; front and rear, left legs with repairs behind the knees; case interior with some other reinforcements/restorations; long drawer had an escutcheon and an interior lock plate at one time (now patched and filled in); bail handles are older replacements; other minor wear and imperfections as would be expected with age and use.
