An abstract watercolor and ink composition on paper by American artist Esther Geller (1921-2015), created in 1949. This work features a chaotic web of swooping black delineations and faint smudges in gray, pink, and green. The work is signed, dated, and dedicated to the lower right. It is mounted on a beige background, presented with beige matting under glass, and housed in a simple brown wood frame. A stamp from Boris Mirski Art Gallery is marked to the verso.
Based in Boston, Esther Geller was an American Abstract Expressionistic artist of the 1940s and 1950s. She studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and was especially known for her compositions that exhibited organic abstractions and her mastery of encaustic painting techniques. Her work has been collected by multiple institutions including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Addison Gallery of American Art, the Danforth Museum, the DeCordova Museum, and the Boris Mirski Art Gallery in Boston, among others.
