An abstract watercolor painting on paper titled New Hampshire Landscape by American artist Esther Geller (1921-2015), created in 1945. This work features curved black and white delineations juxtaposed with irregular green and pink splotches. The work is signed and dated to the lower center. It is presented under glass with double-matting, and housed in a white and red painted wood frame. Two descriptive labels from the Boris Mirski Art Gallery and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts are adhered to the verso.

Based in Boston, Esther Geller was an American Abstract Expressionistic artist of the 1940s and 1950s. She studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and was especially known for her compositions that exhibited organic abstractions and her mastery of encaustic painting techniques. Her work has been collected by multiple institutions including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Addison Gallery of American Art, the Danforth Museum, the DeCordova Museum, and the Boris Mirski Art Gallery in Boston, among others.

Condition

- some toning and spots of accretion scattered throughout paper; slight rippling throughout paper; wear in frame includes small chips, stains, scratches, and finish loss throughout; frame is slightly separating at corners; glass needs cleaning; residue and dirt scattered throughout mat; contents are loose in frame and need securing.
