A watercolor and gouache painting on paper of a Native American temple in New Mexico by Native American artist Kai-Sa (1918-1974), also known as Percy Sandy. Signed to the lower right, this work is presented under glass in a carved gold-tone wood frame with a red liner and a canvas liner.

Also known as Percy Sandy Tsisete, Kai-Sa, meaning ‘Red Moon’, was born at the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. He studied art at the Sherman Institute in Santa Fe and became interested in depicting the customs and culture of local Native Americans. He is especially known for his book illustrations, paintings, and public murals. His work has been collected by multiple institutions including the Gilcrease Institute and the Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa; the Heard Museum in Phoenix; the Indian Arts and Crafts Board in Washington, D.C.; the Museum of Northern Arizona; and the Museum of New Mexico, among others.

- some stains and snags in canvas liner; minor wear in frame includes scratches and stains scattered throughout.
