A charcoal and conte crayon drawing on paper of a figural study by listed American artist Daniel Sprick (b. 1953). Signed in graphite to the lower right, it is presented under glass with tan matting and housed in a composite wood frame. A frame label is adhered to the verso.

Considered one of America’s leading contemporary realists, Daniel Sprick’s subjects range from extraordinarily realistic portraits to hauntingly contemplative still lifes and urban light filled landscapes. His contemporary paintings subtly blur the line between realism and abstraction. For his portrait subjects, Sprick has never been attracted to conventional beauty, but instead presents an all embracing view of the human condition, turning his attention to subjects from diverse walks of life and highlighting the non-traditional beauty within each. Sprick’s exquisite, hyper-realist still lifes recall the Dutch and Flemish traditions; he credits Dutch painters Jan Van Eyck and Jan Vermeer among major his influences as well as Baroque and Renaissance painters. In addition, he took many art history courses at the University of Northern Colorado, a school he chose because it was not dominated by avant-garde artist teachers. Among the art schools he attended at a younger age are the Ramon Froman School of Art, and the National Academy of Design in New York. His work has been collected and exhibited by numerous institutions including the Denver Art Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Taos Art Museum, among many others.
