An etching on paper titled Waycamp Bridge by artist Robert Whitmore, circa 1922. To the lower right margin is the artist’s signature. The piece is housed within matting and encased in plastic.
Robert H. Whitmore was a painter, printmaker, and draughtsman born in Dayton, Ohio on February 22, 1890. Whitmore studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cincinnati Art Academy, deriving his impressionistic style from the artistic movement of the time. Whitmore preferred to work directly from nature, believing that it produced an honest interpretation of the world around us. In the 1920s, Whitmore began teaching at the Dayton Art Institute before settling into a position at Antioch College for thirty years.
