A vintage Ethiopian Orthodox Theophany house blessing cross. This rectangular wall hanging is comprised of hand carved wood and features hand-painted gouache scenes to the top and a hand written blessing written in Ge’ez at the bottom. An inset cruciform shape to the center cradles a removable silver tone cross. The item does not bear a visible maker’s mark. The Ethiopian Timkat tradition held in January celebrates the Theophany, or Epiphany, marking the baptism of Jesus Christ.
