Chemiakin was expelled from art school for failing to conform to Socialist Realist norms; from an early age his work leaned towards Cubist and Abstract Expression, as seen here. His work was so controversial that he was even treated at a mental health facility due to his unwillingness to conform. Since, his work has been represented at numerous reputable institutions across Russia and America, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the State Tretyakov Gallery, and the State Russian Museum.
