Late 19th Century Villeroy & Boch U.S. Bicyclist Themed Stein
Item Details
An antique late nineteenth century Villeroy & Boch Mettlach U.S. bicyclist themed stein. This half-liter stein features an embossed pewter lid with arabesque and foliate designs and an eagle with spread wings thumb rest marked ‘United States’. The body of the mug features a bicycle race scene to one side and a male and female pair of bicyclists in 1890s style clothing to the other side. It additionally features a U.S. themed emblem marked ‘L.A.W.’ in gothic script. The piece is emboss marked with the Villeroy & Boch Mettlach mark and the number ‘2140’ and additionally marked with a green stamp maker’s mark to the underside.
