An 1810 first edition of A Picturesque Voyage to India by the Way of China by Thomas Daniell (1749 – 1840) and William Daniell (1769-1837), published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and William Daniell, London. Contemporary half calf with marbled boards. There are fifty hand-colored aquatint plates, each with an accompanying leaf of explanatory text. Originally issued in ten parts, Picturesque Voyage documents Thomas and his nephew William Daniell’s long journey to China and on to India. Included are views of Madeira, the Cape of Good Hope, Java, Calcutta and relevant illustrations of the coast of China at Macao and Canton.

Condition

- overall in good shape, consistent with age. Occasional light soiling to plates, mostly marginal, the spine has some detachment from the boards , with wear noted on the corners and cover boards.
