An oil painting on canvas titled Mojave III by celebrated American Modernist Ludwig Sander (1906-1975), created in 1967. Depicting a signature subject and style of the artist, this work features outlined rectangular fields of yellow planes. Present to the verso is a handwritten inscription and a descriptive label from the Dayton Art Institute. The composition is presented in a wood frame with a gold-tone metal liner.

Ludwig Sander is known for his abstract paintings of simplified planes in vivid, saturated color. He studied at the Art Students League in New York as well as in Munich under the tutelage of Hans Hofmann. Sander was a charter member of The Club in New York with fellow members Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline and his work is in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum, The Guggenheim, Art Institute of Chicago and the Metropolitan Museum of New York.
