Hand-Knotted Turkmen Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Turkmen wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of salmon, ivory, idigo, gold, madder red, and slate. The salmon colored field begins with a central hooked medallion infilled with a stepped diamond, quatrefoil elements, and tree forms. The field also features two other hooked medallions infilled with a gul, as well as smaller medallions, star motifs, and florettes. Framing the field is an ivory grounded main aina kochak and bracket designed border, and a pair of running dog guard borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a gray wool warp fringe to the ends. It is labeled with a signature, and ‘Carpet Weaver’s Association’, ‘Turkmen’.
