An artist’s proof etching on paper titled Yom Kippur Angel by well-listed American artist Leonard Baskin (1922-2000), dated 1981. This work is signed and dated ‘1978’ in plate to the lower left. To the lower left, it is marked ’Artist’s Proof’ in graphite; it is dated 1981 and dedicated in graphite to the lower center. The work is signed by hand in graphite to the lower right. Presented under glass, it is double-matted and housed in a white painted wood frame.
Printmaker and sculptor Leonard Baskin was born in New Jersery and studied sculpture under Maurice Glickman at the Educational Alliance in New York City. In the late 1940s, he furthered his education at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. He has published books featuring limited editions of his prints and his work has been collected by multiple institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Vatican Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution, among others.
