Salvador Dali Lithograph "Le Triomphe"

Item Details

A lithograph on paper titled Le Triomphe from the Triumph of Love by well-listed Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí (1904-1989). Depicting a bound female nude figure standing behind a black mythical creature being lanced by a large butterfly, surrounded by a black flaming heart. This work is signed in graphite by Dali in the lower right margin, and they are each hand numbered 39 (IXL) in an edition of 150 (CL). This work is presented behind glass in a white mat and gold tone wood frame. Hanging hardware is presented to the verso.

Salvador Dalí was born in Figueres, Spain and is known for his Surrealist and otherworldly compositions. He was encouraged to pursue his artistic inclinations at a young age and in 1922 he enrolled at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid, Spain. As most artists during his lifetime, Dalí moved to Paris to collaborate with his contemporaries including Picasso, Magritte, and Miro. Dalí’s body of work is based on his ability to translate his profound understanding of what is just beyond human consciousness into something tangible. Dalí’s extensive oeuvre can be seen in many public collections including the MoMA, New York; the Salvador Dalí Museum, Florida; and the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago among many others.

This piece is included in the Catalogue Raisonné, “The Official Catalog of the Graphic Works of Salvador Dali” by Albert Field, catalogue page 183
