A limited edition etching on paper titled Standing Bird by well-listed American artist Leonard Baskin (1922-2000), dated 1966. This black and white work features a rotund bird resembling an owl. The work is signed with the artist’s monogram and dated in plate to the lower right. It is also signed by hand in graphite to the lower right, and numbered 58 out of an edition of 60 to the lower left. Presented under glass with double white matting, it is housed in a white painted wood frame. Labels from Powers Gallery and Isselbacher Gallery are adhered to the verso.
Printmaker and sculptor Leonard Baskin was born in New Jersery and studied sculpture under Maurice Glickman at the Educational Alliance in New York City. In the late 1940s, he furthered his education at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. He has published books featuring limited editions of his prints and his work has been collected by multiple institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Vatican Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution, among others.
