A rare limited edition aquatint on annam appliqué to Arches paper titled Bédouine au grand voile by renowned French artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954), created in 1947. This richly inked black and white impression features an abstracted portrait of a woman portrayed with simple thick black lines. The work is numbered 19 out of an edition of 25 to the lower right, and signed in graphite to the lower right. Presented under glass with off-white fabric-covered matting, it is housed in a gold-tone gesso wood frame. A label from Harcourts Gallery, San Francisco is adhered to the verso.
Recognized as the leader of Fauvism, Henri Matisse rivaled Pablo Picasso in his groundbreaking style and his revolutionary artwork at the turn of the century. He studied at the Académie Julian and was a student of William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Gustave Moreau. His work has been regularly exhibited and collected by countless institutions in the United States, Russia, and various European countries.
