"AX" Armchair by Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for Fritz Hansen

Item Details

A Mid Century/ Danish Modern molded plywood AX armchair, designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for Fritz Hansen, circa 1950s. The light, birch frame is angled, with arms bend forward to square the sides, deviating but still connected to the angled back and seat, both veneered in dark teak. The angled, tapered block legs have teak or mahogany insets to the sides, and are connected by rod stretchers near the base of the seat, at the front and back. An FH in a circle is faintly visible to the underside.
Item is located in a stair-access basement.

Peter Hvidt (1916-86) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-93) were both Danish architects and furniture designers, and together opened Hvidt & Mølgaard studio in 1944; they designed the AX line in 1950, produced for export through Fritz Hansen.
