Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Hamadan Area Rug
Item Details
A semi-antique Persian Hamadan area rug. This wool village rug is hand knotted in a palette of ruby, black, ivory, chartreuse, camel and slate blue. It features a classic Persian medallion-and-corners design beginning with a layered, round medallion filled with palmettes and flowers. The medallion rests on a ruby field with ivory and slate blue spandrels. Populating the field and corners are arabesqued vines, flowers, palmettes and foliate motifs, elements that continue in the main border. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at one end with a hand-finished kilim skirt, while the other end features wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
