Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Khamseh Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage hand-knotted Persian Khamseh area rug. This wool-pile rug is rendered in a palette of ivory, dark rose, garnet, teal and pale olive. It begins with a hexagonal herati medallion grounded in dark rose and fringed in garnet. The medallion rests on an ivory field with quartered medallions in the corners. Populating the field are a plethora of herati-arranged motifs, including peacocks, botehs, geometric vinework, flowers, leaves and palmettes,; many of these elements also feature in the medallion and corners. Four borders frame the field, including a primary border grounded in garnet, featuring a complex boteh meander pattern, and two minor borders featuring botehs and _X _ shapes over olive. Selvedges are overcast. One end of the rug finishes with a woven skirt, while the other has unbound cotton warp fringe. A faded label on the reverse is no longer legible.
