A hand-knotted Indo-Persian area rug. This nearly square wool rug features a herati pattern incorporating palmettes, flowers, leaves and vines over a black field. The palette is camel, black, cream, terracotta, celadon, mauve and powder blue. Framing the field are eight borders, seven of which are floral. These include a wide herati primary border grounded in cream, featuring crisply rendered palmettes, flowers and vines. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with tan mesh skirts and long, knotted warp fringe. A fabric label on the reverse reads ‘Hand Knotted in India.’
