Lacquered and Hand-Painted Chinoiserie Cabinet with Carved Accents

Item Details

A lacquered and hand-painted chinoiserie cabinet with carved accents. The wooden, black-lacquered case features a rectangular top painted with flowerheads and foliate tendrils above two paneled, relief-carved doors with engraved, metal hardware. The doors open to a red, two-shelf interior over a relief-carved, base panel and a scrolled skirt on the exterior of the case. The sides are further decorated with landscape scenes of birds and butterflies and the cabinet rises on square, stile legs ending in black caps. It is unmarked by the maker.
