Item Details
A finely hand-knotted inscribed Turkish Hereke silk accent rug. This ornately designed rug is rendered in a palette of sky blue, terracotta, sage, ivory, cornsilk, salmon, aqua, mocha, and wine. The sky blue colored field begins with a uniquely shaped pendant medallion with both straight and curvilinear leaf edges, while infilled with an array of intricate floral work, over terracotta and sage. The central medallion coordinates with the spandrels that have similar designs, and a protruding vase with a bouquet that breaks through the lozenge. The floral theme flows to the terracotta grounded main border that is designed with blossom clusters, palmettes, and leaves. There is also a pair of floral and medallion designed guard borders, with one showing a butterfly motif housing an inscription at one end. Finishing this rug are double overcast selvedges and a silk warp fringe to the ends. It is unlabeled, but offers a ring to the underside near the inscription.
