A semi-antique hand-knotted Afghani Baluch rug. This rug features a rich red wool field ornamented with an array of rows of floral motifs to the center field, at the center of which is a mirrored medallion containing stylized floral and abstract motifs in burgundy, emerald, cream, ecru, and rust. The center field is bound on four sides by a pair of identical minor borders containing a floral pattern alternating between emerald, burgundy, ecru, and cream, which flank a principal border showing a diagonal checkerboard patterning in coordinating colors. The rug is finished at both ends with a long flat-woven kilim edge in navy, cream, ecru, and red, as well as a natural warp fringe, and to both sides with a wrapped selvedge edge.
