19th Century Sy & Wagner Prussian 812 Silver Tea Service

Item Details

A late 19th century 812 silver tea service by Sy & Wagner of Berlin, including a teapot, creamer, lidded sugar, and a round tray. Each piece is in a finely quilted pattern, with guillochage ornamentation, and elaborate scrolling handles. Additionally, they are monogrammed with an interlocking ‘VF’ under a crown. They are marked ‘Sy & Wagner’, along with a ‘GD’ mark, and a ‘13’ loth mark for 812 silver, a fineness mark that was used until 1886. The total approximate weight is 27.161 ozt.

In 1859 court goldsmith Johann George Hossauer (1794-1874) transferred his atelier to his apprentice Emil August Albert Wagner and Francois Louis Jeremie Sy. They operated as Sy & Wagner, becoming goldsmiths to his Majesty the King of Prussia, through to the First World War.
