Antique Late Federal Cherry Chest of Drawers

Item Details

An antique late Federal cherry chest of drawers, circa 1820-1840. The paneled case features a rectangular top with a scrolled, three-quarter gallery above a stack of four dovetailed and graduated drawers. The scratchbeaded fronts are fitted with brass, oval pulls embossed with spread-winged eagles before poplar linings. The chest rises on short, ring-turned legs ending in tapered feet.

Condition

- to fair; top with some marks/stains and a small patch repair; left side panel with a shrinkage crack; small patch repairs to corners of drawer divider rails (just below lower corners of each drawer); some stains to drawer interiors; drawer runners built up; one handle is loose (missing a nut); drawers retain interior lock plates but no key; other minor surface wear and imperfections as would be expected with age and use.
