Antique Cherry Southern Glazed-Door Bookcase

Item Details

An antique cherry southern glazed-door bookcase, mid 19th century. The bookcase features a rectangular top with a three-quarter gallery above a pair of eight-light doors before three adjustable shelves. It rises on tall, turned legs ending in tapered feet.

Condition

- retains an old, dark finish; two glass panes are cracked/broken; glass appears to be old, if not original, with expected waviness and imperfections; some panes secured to doors by later nails; left door with repaired split and a small loss near top hinge mount; same hinge has been reset; slight backboard gaps covered by a later wood strip and metal overlays; door retains interior lock plate but key doesn’t work; case with other scattered cracks, chips, and marks.
