Antique Poplar and Maple Spindle-Back Bench

Item Details

An antique poplar and maple spindle-back bench, 19th century. The frame features a tablet crest above a half-spindle back continuing to a plank seat. The back and seat are interrupted by three downswept supports and the bench rises on turned legs joined by plank and spindle stretchers. The back of the crest is inscribed with the initials ‘I.G.B.’

Condition

- to fair; scattered scratches, chips, and marks; light shrinkage cracks to ends of seat platform; plank stretchers attached with later screws.
