Antique Cherry, Walnut, and Poplar Lift-Top Writing Desk

Item Details

An antique cherry, walnut, and poplar lift-top writing desk, 19th century. The cherry case features a hinged lid with applied, edge molding opening to a shallow, storage well with a poplar till concealing two pencil drawers. There is a carved escutcheon on the front panel and the desk rises on square, tapered legs in walnut.

Condition

- top and lid with some stains and age splits; age splits reinforced on underside of lid by later, walnut battens; till is probably later; some rust to hinges; feet with some staining and possible height loss; retains interior lock plate but no key; other scattered surface wear and imperfections as would be expected with age and use.
