A pair of antique chromolithographs on paper titled Ausländische Stubenvögel and Heimische Stubenvögel by German artist Friedrich Specht (1839-1909) for the fifth edition of the Meyers Konversations-Lexicon published between 1893 and 1897. These ornithological illustrations each depict a collection of domestic birds, in one they are native to Germany, and in the other foreign, each numbered and labeled to the lower margin. One print is signed in plate to the lower right, and both have the titles printed to the upper center and publishing information along the lower edge. They are presented behind mats and glass in thin gold tone wood frames with wires to the versos for hanging.
Condition
- some discoloration to both prints and their mats; accretion in both upper and lower margins of both pieces; light edge wear to both frames; tears to both paper backings.
