Capodimonte Style Porcelain Ewer with Figural Cherub Motif

A porcelain ewer in the style of Italian Capodimonte. The piece features a handle and spout in the form of a cresting wave above a cherub riding a hippocampus with a satyr to the reverse. The hand-painted ewer presents molded cherubs lounging among tall grasses to the exterior of the basin while three mermaids serve as the pedestal base. The form was first created in Naples, Italy ca. 1743. The piece bears a blue underglaze mark of an ‘N’ under a crown.
