A late 19th century reproduction engraving on laid paper after a 1739 engraving by Jacobus Houbraken (Dutch, 1698 – 1780) after an earlier portrait by Hans Holbein the Younger (German, 1497 – 1543) of Thomas Cromwell, Earl of Essex. The Earl was famous for introducing Henry VIII to Anne of Cleaves, which is depicted in the vignette below the portrait. The piece is marked to the lower corners with the names of the original engraver and painter. The work is presented as a loose print without a frame or mat.

Condition

- to fair; minor foxing to the paper; minor adhesive residue to the paper verso; minor toning and discolorations to the print.
