A tufted wool Neoclassical-style area rug. The rug has been worked in black and shades of taupe, sand, buff, amber, and espresso. All of the design elements have been rendered in such a way so as to suggest depth and dimension. The rug begins with a central star medallion surrounded by layered acanthus leaves and framed by beads and a series of fleur de lis motifs. Swagged draperies define the spandrels which are infilled with scrolling leaves. The border incorporates arabesques and star medallions. The outermost edge consists of stylized egg-and-dart motifs. The rug is backed in woven fabric and is not labeled. Item is located on the second floor.
