Wilhelm Rauscher German Gilt Monstrance with Enameled Medallions
Item Details
An elaborate German gilt monstrance by Papal Court jeweler Wilhelm Rauscher (active 1892-1925); circa 1900. This monstrance features a central glass luna to display the consecrated Host, surrounded by filigree rays of Gloria. This rises over an 800 silver statuette of Christ above a knopped stem and hexafoil base. It is ornamented throughout with elaborately painted and guilloche enamel medallions, red and green garnet and glass doublets, glass doublets, white synthetic sapphires, and red garnets. Additionally, the upper cross finial features lapis beads and a single amethyst cabochon. It is marked underneath ‘Made in Germany Wilh. Rauscher Papstl Horjuwelier. Hof & Dom Goldschmied. Fulda’.
