Antique Z. S. & Co. Bavarian WWI Military Themed Porcelain Trinket Box
Item Details
An antique World War I era Bavarian porcelain trinket box by Zeh, Scherzer & Co. This round box features a depiction of the military Iron Cross symbol marked 1914 within a oak leaf and berry wreath and surrounded by a variety of different flags. There are also three tan banners under the depictions which read in German, ‘Wir Deutsche Fürchten Gott. Sonst Nichts in Der Welt’ translating to ‘We Germans Fear God. Nothing Else in the World’ a quote by German statesman, Otto von Bismarck. The sides of the box are decorated in oak leaves and acorns, as well as gilt trim around the rim. The underside is stamped with the maker’s mark used between 1880 and 1918, and hand marked ‘1145.02.10’.
