Hand-Knotted Armenian Caucasian Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Armenian Caucasian area rug. This geometrically-patterned rug is woven in a palette of orange, raspberry, mahogany, cream, and ivory. It features three square sections in the center field, each containing a star medallion with columns and floral designs. The top appears to be dated ‘1948’, and the lowest has a woven signature to the left. These sections are split with a floral border and surrounded by a primary cup and leaf border with compound crenelated, checked, and other geometric guard borders. The rug is finished with triple overcast selvedges and a long kilim skirt with two stripes on each end with a short knotted warp fringe.
