Large Hand-Knotted Persian Heriz Area Rug
Item Details
A large hand-knotted Persian Heriz area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of azure, rose, cream, midnight blue, camel, red, burgundy and charcoal. It begins with a large-scale, layered medallion with double pendants. The medallion rests on a hexagonal red field with cream spandrels. Fillers include stylized palmettes, flowers, foliates and vines. Three borders frame the field, including a main border grounded in charcoal and filled with meandering, stylized foliates and flowerheads; minor borders feature meandering carnations over rose. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
